Vet is under investigation after he was filmed pulling out dogs’ vocal cords to stop them barking in roadside surgeries in China. Officials in Qingbaijiang District in Chengdu are now investigating the vet, identified only as Zeng, and his assistant who are both said to be unlicensed.
The practice involves reaching into the throats of dogs and cutting their vocal cords, leaving the animals with a muted bark. But the procedure which involves prising their mouths open with string on their teeth was carried out in broad daylight at a local flower and bird market, leaving many questioning the hygiene standards as well as morality of the practice.
